I’ve been given the gift of compassion cultivation training. As with many aspects of my life, intuition plays a prominent role. That still small voice, as my mother used to say, or that felt-sense/gut-feeling, informing us through quiet, clear messages. Sometimes I’ve followed and sometimes not, though the summer of 2019, I knew it was time to deeply explore compassion. With Stanford University in my figurative backyard, I signed up for Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) through CCARE at Stanford Medical School (http://ccare.stanford.edu/). Following this class, my work expanded into a Compassion Immersion program and now Applied Compassion Training (ACT 2020). The ACT 2020 program is a multi-month program which expands our experiences toward becoming a compassion change agent and ambassador. In other words, how do we integrate and bring forth compassionate actions in our lives?
Humility, and the cultivation of humility, is a place to start. Humility, in its purest form, quiets the ego opening the door to our compassion for self and others. By being humble, we balance our ego like a teeter-totter with arrogance and insecurity on either end. When we are humble, we understand our strengths and limitations and are eager to improve ourselves. When we are humble, we appreciate others fully and focus beyond our own self interests. By being humble, by being human, we also cultivate compassion for ourselves and others. At this moment with COVID-19 swiftly moving through humanity, may we find peace and joy in cultivating humility and compassion.
Join me, and together let's bring more compassion into our lives. Warmly, Luan
My blog is intended to be a healing space to honor and acknowledge the light in all of us, the light that is already here. I share small moments of life that offer gentle reminders to cultivate humility and compassion toward ourselves (self-compassion) and others. Please share your experiences as we find ways to connect and support one another.
At this moment with the coronavirus moving through humanity, may we find peace and joy in cultivating self-compassion and compassion for one another.
